Know Your Caribbean Family History!

Linford Sweeney - Caribbean Family Historian

Linford, who was born in Clarendon, Jamaica, has been tracing his own family history for the past twenty years, and he is keen to share his experiences with, and teach others.

Tracing Your Caribbean Family History

There has been a growing interest in people seeking to trace their family history, with popular programmes such as "Who Do You Think You Are" reaching millions of people worldwide.

There are several reasons why this interest is growing, and these include:

* Hereditary health issues and how it may have affected their ancestors.

* A yearning to know where their family originated, e.g. Africa, Europe, Asia, etc.

* For self-discovery purposes

* Curiosity about family resemblances and characteristics

Whatever the reasons there are are next to unlimited resources available on the internet, in universities, family history centres, genealogy departments and archives in many countries, churches, within families, etc.

The Caribbean and the Enslavement of Africans

Tracing Caribbean ancestors back to, and through, slavery and to Africa (or Europe) is an expanding area of interest. It is also an area of research fraught with difficulties owing to the lack of records going back to the 1800s.

How I can help you

Although people are at different levels in their research, Linford Sweeney is able to provide support at all levels. For instance, you may be just beginning your journey and need to know where to begin. Or you may have already begun your research and you have now become a little 'stuck'. There are others who are at a more advanced level who may need one-to-one support and to deepen their knowledge.

I may be able to help you on your way!
